Greetings from the chief, Don Mason, and welcome to San Diego Volunteers.
As our organization grows either by your charitable contributions or time volunteered in order to make your community a safer place, we will continue to strive to refine our skills as an organizations and strengthen our infrastructure as we serve our local communities in and around San Diego County.
As a volunteer you will find yourself in not only a challenging position but also a position of self fulfillment knowing that you serve the greater good of your community. As chief of SDV there are two quotes that I like to think of. The first is “Volunteer Today, Prepare for tomorrow”, which is the very base of what we like to consider ourselves as a community. The second quote I like to recite is “Those who can serve should serve”. If each of us as individuals acted in a capacity of self serving then what would happen when a catastrophic event were to occur and we knew not how to react as a “Team”? Teamwork and preparation are the keys to successfully completing any task.
As a team we will learn together the art of community involvement, leadership, and task completion. As we grow as a team we will continue to train and learn the skills of light extrication, fire safety, water safety, search and rescue, electrical safety, CPR and Basic First Aide, as well as, any and all other techniques needed to assist paid professionals of county Emergency Services organizations.
As a former volunteer of the Yardley Makefield Emergency Unit located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, I can attest to the personal gratification in saving a person’s life through C.P.R. and river rescue. As a former Police Officer while enlisted in the military I can also attest to the rewarding feeling in protection of people and property. I encourage anyone who visits the SDV web site to inquire upon what you can do for your community, and how your future training and partnership with SDV may one day save some one’s life whether assisting SDV, or in the public domain during a non emergency situation.
