Terrorism is a potential event that we all should be aware that can affect all of us in a variety of capacities that could include Explosions, Bio Hazard, or the Poisoning of our communities’ water supply. Since the events of 9/11 we as U.S. citizens have been painfully aware of the potential of foreign terrorism affecting our domestic home front. Although the existence of terrorism affecting U.S. citizens, embassy staff, and military personnel in other regions of the world pre-dated the events of 9/11, events such as the loss of over 300 U.S. Marines in Beirut by Muslim radicals and attacks in Germany from organizations such as the “Red Brigade”.

Until the events of 9/11 Terrorism has never confronted Americans in the manner and
fashion that 9/11 had on U.S. Domestic Soil. San Diego Volunteers is aware of the fact that
during the events of 9/11, New York Cities Emergency Services were crippled. If such an
event were to affect San Diego County, San Diego Volunteers and its’ members are
available to fulfill a variety of positions as needed to assist governmental entities.
As devastating as 9/11 was, the United States only experienced a conventional attack
against it's domestic soil. Possibilities still exist that the next terrorist attack could occur
through either an explosive device that yields low level nuclear contamination referred to
as a "Dirty Bomb", an actual nuclear detonation, or a bio-hazard such as contamination of
our water supply. Although, the next terrorist attack against the United States could occur
any where and at anytime, in an unknown fashion with unknown losses, the impact on
San Diego if affected, will have an unknown impact upon the effectiveness of the county's
EMS
Don Mason acknowledges the fact that with the new
geo-climate that exists today regarding these
areas, that he would never act in the capacity of the
main line emergency personnel. Therefore, Don's
position as chief, is that San Diego Volunteers acts
only in the capacity to assist today's Emergency
Management Services who have state of the art
